Description
Earth Lodge Native American - An earth lodge is a partially underground building covered with earth. Examples are from the Native Americans of the Great Plains and Eastern Woodlands. Earth lodges are usually circular with a dome-like roof. A smoke hole at the top of the dome releases cooking and heating smoke. Earth lodges were used by the Plains tribes. The Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara. A Feathered war bonnet (also called warbonnet or headdress) can be seen on the seating log in the back.
