Description
Tunguska Event This painting depicts an explosion and near impact, like the large astral body of June 30, 1908. Believed to be a comet or portion of a small asteroid, the meteorite hit the atmosphere of earth causing an enormous blast. No crater was ever found, so the explosion took place entirely in the air. The body came from space, and when it exploded it flattened 80 million trees over an area of 830 sq mi. Luckily the fire and blast wave struck the ground in the Siberian wilderness, covered mainly with vast empty forests. Russia has since declared the area a nature reserve. Science still hasn’t explained what happened in the Russian north that day.
