Artist's Description
NOAA Hurricane Hunter - United States special-purpose aircraft used earlier in the program. Aircraft flying into tropical storms and hurricanes and tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, provide valuable data for forecasters. They have the specific purpose of directly measuring weather data in and around those storms. Modified Lockheed C-130 aircraft like this are no longer used by NOAA for weather data collection.
